Recording your results - ultra smart

Hi TROUBR, as far as i am aware you can present your findings any way you feel unless i am told any different by someone more experienced than me. I've been thinking about this myself recently as i like you am a gadget fan but i am not very technically minded. How much easier it would be to just plug your meter into a laptop and download the results, whoopeeee. I have the optium xceed but i don't know how much you can do with it. If anyone out there knows about this machine would you let me know ?

Have you registered your machine with Abbott? If so, you can apply for a free data link cable, which will arrive pretty quickly IIRC, it comes with a driver CD which, to be honest, could be downloaded. You can find the CoPilot software on the web, it's not a very big download (about 11M) why they don't put it on the CD I don't know.

CoPilot is pretty good, it generates some pretty graphs and the log books are what you'd expect to see, allows you to enter manual readings as well as download data from the meter. It allows you to record other clinical data along with dietary intake and insulin and other medication dosages.

One thing I'd like to do with CoPilot is highlight specific readings and have comments appear on the graphs. Another thing I'd like to see is the ability to plot other readings alongside the meter readings for instance it would have been nice to see weight loss vs. BG readings for instance - just for an idea of how weight loss had an impact.

However I have never been able to get the usb cable to work so I have to manually input data then print it out for the doctor.

I think, actually, that it may have a lot to do with what your doctor prefers. Most, though, are accommodating

As a software developer and being insulin dependent I am developing an application to record BG, Carbs, Insulin, Medication and Activity and my doctor and diabetic nurses are more than happy to see my results on my laptop as we can then query the results, cross reference the data and analyse the results with the freedom to look at results and averages for a specific period.

I am also improving the application based on their ideas of what would be nice to have in the way of analysis.

I would think that most helthcare specialists would have the same attitude to data being presented electronically as long as it is accurate and easy to interpret.
