Recording your results - ultra smart

Hi

This probably seems like a silly question but I don't want to upset my gp or diabetes doctor. Now that I ahve a super dooper ultra smart that can record everything do I still need to note everything in a book. Will the doctors accept log book print outs etc from my downloads (when I can get the software - they are having technical problems on the lifescan website currently?

I ask because I would love to have one less thing to carry around and I can put everything I need to (CHO , exercise etc) on the metre.(Hang on, I have just realised I sound like I am selling the things :? which I assure you I am not - I am just a gadget fan and in love with my new toy that I got from my dsn following my DAFNE course!!!) I also ask becuase I have finished my book and have not got another

Any advise would be appreciated!!

Thanks

Louise (aka troubr)

Hi TROUBR, as far as i am aware you can present your findings any way you feel unless i am told any different by someone more experienced than me. I've been thinking about this myself recently as i like you am a gadget fan but i am not very technically minded. How much easier it would be to just plug your meter into a laptop and download the results, whoopeeee. I have the optium xceed but i don't know how much you can do with it. If anyone out there knows about this machine would you let me know ?

Hazey,

Have you registered your machine with Abbott? If so, you can apply for a free data link cable, which will arrive pretty quickly IIRC, it comes with a driver CD which, to be honest, could be downloaded. You can find the CoPilot software on the web, it's not a very big download (about 11M) why they don't put it on the CD I don't know.

CoPilot is pretty good, it generates some pretty graphs and the log books are what you'd expect to see, allows you to enter manual readings as well as download data from the meter. It allows you to record other clinical data along with dietary intake and insulin and other medication dosages.

One thing I'd like to do with CoPilot is highlight specific readings and have comments appear on the graphs. Another thing I'd like to see is the ability to plot other readings alongside the meter readings for instance it would have been nice to see weight loss vs. BG readings for instance - just for an idea of how weight loss had an impact.

This is a pretty short introduction, if you have any further questions - please feel free to PM me.

Regards, Tubs.

Thanks for your replies. The lifescan people are posing me the software as the web download is not working - I hope my usb cable works - sue you now have me worried!, I don't fancy manually downloading it.

I am sick of writing it all down so will be electronic from now on!!!

As a software developer and being insulin dependent I am developing an application to record BG, Carbs, Insulin, Medication and Activity and my doctor and diabetic nurses are more than happy to see my results on my laptop as we can then query the results, cross reference the data and analyse the results with the freedom to look at results and averages for a specific period.

I am also improving the application based on their ideas of what would be nice to have in the way of analysis.

I would think that most helthcare specialists would have the same attitude to data being presented electronically as long as it is accurate and easy to interpret.
