Type 2 Red wine

I only drink alcohol on high days and holidays but after reading posts saying that red wine reduces BG I thought I would give it a go. I am only having half a glass of Merlot but I am not seeing any reduction. Am I not drinking enough and should I increase it to a full glass?

Honestly, @carol43 my feeling on this is that red wine (and other drinks) are to be drunk according to personal choice and pleasure. It's not medication, there is no optimal dose. It's booze and still to be drunk in moderation according to your personal choice, habits and preferences.

If you enjoy your red and feel like another half glass, have another half glass. You're a grown up! :)

I think you have to be a little more circumspect when reading some information. For example, eating more than 250g of carbs a day keeps you regular, Metformin cures baldness and makes you live to 110 and eating fat furs up your arteries.

Stop worrying about the gumf, buy a bottle of Merlot and drink the whole lot or else we'll all come over there and bash you. Just don't expect it to do anything to your BG that any other wine wouldn't do.

cheers my dears ... I´ll give it a go too... but well I think it differs from one person to the other how much 1 glass of red wine occupies our liver ... it is so that the liver can to some extent increase its capability to clear the body from alcohol while also transforming proteins and releasing glucose into the blood... , in some people the liver is totally blocked from doing much more while processing alcohol... in others I think the liver can do a lot at the same time..

I drink at least a bottle a week.
Plan is 3 large glasses over 3 days

This can on occasion like this week stretch to 2 bottles over 4 days

No idea what it does to HbA1c but absolutely it reduces my BG at time of eating and for the hours of digestion after. I end up in the 4's for some time.

TBH I started this routine more because I read it was good for cholesterol. Then I see it reduces BG at time of eating, and now it is just because I like a glass with my meals at the weekend. Curry last night and steak tonight

If you're looking to alcohol to lower bs spirits without sweet mixers are far superior. I enjoy citrus vodla with water and a lemon wedge. No carbs.
Fizzy ( sparkling water ) works too instead of regular water. Comes in flavors as well. Just make sure it's zero carbs, no artifiacail sweeteners.

I've got a cherished UNOPENED bottle of malt which used to be my drink of choice years ago. Can't have any mixers with that, sacrilege.
