Hello I am newly diagnosed T2, I take metformin 500mg x 2 and simvastatin 40mg x1, I am a bit concerned about my feet, after reading how diabetes can affect them, my problem is that my ankles are very red with some redness reaching down to my feet, should I see the doctor or not, or am I just being over cautious, any help would be appreciated

Yes, absolutely. Any problem with your feet go straight to the Doctor.

You can't be too cautious. The T2 diabetic President of my company has a metal leg because he let a small cut go unchecked.

Go and make a fuss at the Doctors. They'll understand.

Hi, thanks for replying so quickly, I wasn't sure what to do because at first I thought it may have been the job I am doing, I spend a lot of time standing in one place as I am a checkout operator and obviously my feet ache after a few hours, I will mention it to the doctor, being newly diagnosed I am a little ignorant about all the facts, haven't really been told much info at all, I have stopped smoking, after 40 years, and completely changed my diet so lets hope my BS gets under control fairly quickly

Hi Alison and welcome to the forum
I can't help you about your redness apart from reiterating that you must go and see your doctor, but, as you say that you haven't had any information about diabetes, here is the advice we give to new members and I think that you will find it very helpful. Ask as many questions as you like and someone will answer.

You should see your doctor Alison.

Hi alison.
I have purpley dark red ankles, lower calves n feet .
Mine is with progressive neuropathic pain and poor circulation.
Am actuallly off this afternoon to vist the podiatry clinic who insist on seeing me every 4 weeks.
My limbs n feet are so thin in flesh n boney they wont take their eyes 'off' me.
If I was to get a break in the bit of skin that I do have, I will be in 'big trouble'
Please DO go and get some professional advice .
Its your toots and they uphold you and carry you around in life!
No you wouldnt be being over cautious at all, they will see it as sensible that you asked
Do let us know how you get on .
Anna.
Just remembered to add here , this hot weather will affect our feet with blood flow and the
nerve branches . [my podiatry team jabber these facts at me too]
