My latest HBA1c result has fallen to 35. This figure indicates that I am no longer in need of 3x500 mg of Metformin daily. Can I change my dosage to 2x500 mg without consulting my doctor?

We cannot advise you to drop medication. Why not ask your dr ? Uk drs have an e-consult online option. Some countries seem to have an email option for their drs.

What I can say is 35mmol is a totally normal level. Many type 2 are not prescibed medication when only just over the diagnostic threshold of 48. Most drs are happy enough low 50’s and under however it’s achieved so long as you are working to reduce it as much as you can and maintain it. The Metformin has a small effect and stopping might cause a small rise, depending on what other changes you have made.
