Type 2 Regular Low HbA1C but still 8.9 fasting test?

I am confused, as every time I have an HbA1C fasting test at a hospital clinic, it is around 4.1, however when I take a home kit fasting test or a normal fasting glucose test in a clinic it is around 8.9.

So do I have Type 2 diabetes?

I also have 'cold' haemolytic anaemia, could this be distorting the HbA1C test, as my red blood cells renew faster than normal?

Under normal circumstances there is no need to fast for the HbA1c blood test.

And yes, your anaemia may affect the result. The medication you take for it may have a bearing, too.

As cold haemolytic anaemia causes premature destruction of red blood cells and the HbA1c test depends on the life span of red blood cells then you are very likely to get an anomalous low result.

There are other tests for diabetes that can be carried out maybe you should request one of those.

As to whether you have diabetes or not no one here can tell you we cannot diagnose you for that you will have to consult your doctor or medical team.

Thanks, but 4.1 a low HbA1C not diabetic , however 8.9 mmol iOS a reading equivalent to a type 2 diabetic

An HbA1c of 4.1 is so low it is almost abnormal, and I would say virtually impossible. It is the same as an AVERAGE of 3.9 on your meter measurements. If you only average 3.9 over 24 hours a day for a period of time, it is highly unlikely to be accurate.
Are you sure it is 4.1 and not 41?

Your anaemia is very likely masking the true picture, whatever your HbA1c is.

There are other tests available to determine a diabetes diagnosis and you need to ask for one of these, or both
An oral glucose tolerance test
A Fructosamine test.
