Hi young,

Don't get too stressed out over it. We have all shared your exerience when we first started impersonating pin-cushions. You'll learn the ropes soon enough, especially with the help of so many fine people on the forum.

Sarah's right about your meal last night. Other than what little meat may have been in the bolognese, and the fat in the ice cream, your dinner was pure carbohydrate. If you eat meals like that your two options are (1) inject a lot more insulin to cover the blood sugar rise, or (2) reduce the carbohydrate and replace the calories with more of the good stuff - meat, green veg, nuts, cheese etc.

All the best,

fergus

Hi Young, I suspect we might be going through the same with my son. He's 11 and just have 5units of Lantus at night. We went out for a very nice meal to Frankie & Bennys and since then his sugars have been a real roller-coaster. Prior to the meal he was avering 6 but over the last two days he's been anywhere between 5.4 and 24.2 :? . The night he went up to 24.2 I had to correct him with 3u Novorapid for the first time in ages.

He did have an icecream on Monday, but he's had one everyday for the last two weeks with no change to his reading. Yesterday he had a sausage in a bread bun and it shot up to 13.5.

Hope you feel a bit better soon

Kind regards

Hi

Having just done 10 days of testing and recording what I eat and drink I noticed that if I had potatoes followed by ice cream my BG level was raised above 10 two hours later. However, if I had ice cream and no starchy carbs my BG was ok. Might be worth thinking back what your son ate prior to eating ice cream.

Regards Val
