Remembering to remember.. or remembering you remembered

So here is one that catches me occasionally and causes me some anxiety... usually around 2am.
How do the type 1's out there remember that that did take their insulin? Now the after meal stuff is easy but I have missed my glargine in the evening a couple times and it caused me merry hell the following 2 days.

So now I have the situation where I sometimes wake up in a blind panic in the middle of the night convinced that I forgot to take that evenings dose. No that is quite unlike me in that I am probably one of the most unflappable people going so waking up on the verge of a panic attack is somewhat unnerving. I tend to have to go digging through my logs to make sure and if I forgot to log checking to see if I did dose myself but didnt log or didnt dose or log.. the latter being the case that worries since I risk double dosing which wouldnt be too clever.

This is the real kicker... I actually have a very good memory but for some reason this one seems to ellude me.

I was wondering what everyone else may do to just help things along and more importantly avoid doing anything silly like double dosing.

I don't use insulin, but I am forgetful and sometimes worry I've left the gas on or something
I try to set myself a little routine, which acts as a memory trigger.
For you perhaps you can think of something you can do after you take your insulin each time. It has to be simple or you won't do it.
You might make yourself a little checklist on the computer and tick off when "done". A tiny pen in your insulin case isn't hard to organise.

It's a shame some clever sort hasnt put some electronics into a pen delivery system that logs what was pushed through and when. That would seem a solution.. .though obviously not for disposable pens I guess.

I actually log everything I do anyhow, not doing carbs at the moment as I have a handle on things but when I find my levels going unexpectedly high or low I log them too so I can build a clear picture of the patterns. The only thing is I sometimes to record a shot is all.

I did take to just having a recurring reminder for the glargine so my phone pings me on that. Maybe something to monitor my logs and SMS me if I miss something by an hour or so... hmm may work on that one

That's an idea! :P Get your phone programmed to remind you and then tell it that you've done it, so you have a check. If you are a young phone lover, that should take no time. Granny Hana Here, would have trouble. I've only just learned to write myself a note or set the alarrm clock

i take my insulin on a morning and always write it in a record book, otherwise id never remember :D

I always do a blood sugar test at the same time I inject. So if I can't remember whether I have injected I just have to look at the electronic record on my tester of the time and date I last tested.
