I was one of the lucky people to receive a transplant in May 2007 which has so far proved to be successfull in (temprarily) curing me of Diabetes Mellitus. So far, touch wood, I have had no hypos/hypers and the complications I suffered whilst diabetic have reduced in severity or disappeared altogether. I know that this is not available to everyone as transplants are few and far between but I feel so grateful to the donor and their family for the precious gift I received that dramatically changed my life in ways I could not have imagined. Part of the complications was chronic renal failure which started in November 1997 and progressively got worse as time went by. After being on the combined transplant list for just over a year and on Peritoneal Dialysis for only 3 weeks, I received the call I never expected to receive, to tell me I had a transplant.
I had the first Renal/Pancreatic transplant in Bradford I was told by my consultant, but I just felt special for receiving this special gift.
