I've been reading quite a few posts on ordering/picking up repeats.
I'm in Leicester (if that makes any difference) and all I do is phone the chemist where I got my script originally filled and ask for what I need. They hold a list of all the drugs I've ever had prescribed. They then do something with the GP (no idea what) and my drugs are delivered to my home within the week. I can pick them up if it's easier. Doh!! If the GP wants to see me, the chemist gives me a ring and tells me.
I can also get to change a few things with my GP over the phone. For example, pre-diagnosis, I was on 25mg of ramipril. Now I'm three stones lighter and have the BP of a 20 year old, I've asked him to drop it to 10mgs with a view to stopping it althogether and hey presto, it's done. There is one doc at the practice who hates clients that take care of themselves, so I don't see him by choice.
(those of you in the know will like this; I once went to see him with mid-cycle bleeding and bowel changes at the age of 45. He gave me pain killers. I blinked at him and repeated what I had just said and he handed me the script. No examination, no differential diagnosis. I was fine, but only because I got the correct referral from another GP)
I'm sharing this with you because the only reason I found out they did this is because I asked. I'm pretty sure there are chemists all over the country who do this.
My elderly father has his meds delivered too. The driver will even run errands for any of the old 'uns on his rounds.
