Restless legs

Hiya
I was diagnosed with diabetes about a year ago, to tell the truth I struggle with it and get frustrated I can't quite get the hang of my body anymore.
I have also suffered from restless legs and arms through the night on and off since I was a child. This problem has drastically worsened in the past 6 months and I was wondering if there was any link to this irritating problem and diabetes. I am into my 3rd week of averaging approx 2-4 hours sleep per night due to my body not relaxing at all - my head is exhausted!!
Is this just two separate things or has anyone else experienced this at all?

Will bump your post up to see if any Type 1's can help.

Have you been put on statins at all?

Hey
No, never been on statins. I have no problems with blood pressure or cholesterol. Im very healthy in every other aspect so this came as quite the surprise!

I too have restless legs, during the night my husband used to be constantly tell me to put my legs down. They were forever going up and down, and disturbing him.

I only asked because being type 1 I was put on statins-with a normal low chol...I came off the statins for 18 months and have now been put on a different one. The legs used to be worse when on simvastatin..however they aren't so bad now...however it may be becuase I am now on an additional drug called duloxitine which I take to try and make me sleep bettter and to have less pain.

Do you sleep alright besides the restless legs or do you have vivid dreams as well, I used to have really nightmarish dreams, but have never known whether both the legs and dreams went together???

I have had restless legs for years and for me Vein Vine (tablets) from Healthspan usually relieves it. I just take them when I have an attack. I don't think for me that it has anything to do with diabetes as I had it for years before I was diagnosed.

Me too, had since childhood and have always had 'active' nights - (I wish!!!!)- body has always been active with tossing and turning, leg movement, arm movement and vivid dreams and sleep talking or sleep shouting!!

Since the diagnosis of fibromyalgia and taking drugs to help sleep patterns and movements my leg movements have minimised, and instead of having awaful dream...my last sleep talking was about strawberry pavlova covered in chocolate!!!

Mine isn't anything to do with my diabetes...some HCP's have tried to suggest it was linked with childhood...I categorically state that I had a fantastic childhood and they are wrong to even suggest that my night's are disturbed because of my childhood. Thankfully with the diagnosis of fibro my sleep and restless legs are so much improved.

Thanks folks
Hopefully it is just a coincidence then and not linked, its driving me nuts though Got quite a good sleep last night after taking the advice of a nurse friend, she had said to have a larger dinner than normal, it seems to have worked, fingers crossed this is all it needs. Mind you, one nights sleep doesn't constitute a cure lol

Why would you be put on statins if chol is normal??

Sadly, becuase I was informed by GP that all diabetics should be on statins...and I believed the advice I was given. I am sure that the statins started off what has now been diagnosed as fibromyalgia with chronic pains in muscles...but no proof and no tests that will confirm it....

After I came off the simvastatin Christmas 09 then my chol levels gradually crept up and when they got to 5.3 then consultant suggested statins again...but a different type. I've now been on them 4 weeks, and for the first time in 5 years I have had chronic TMJ again in my face.....but don't know whether this is related to statins again or not, or whether it is just conincidence. TMJ is where your jaw and muscle get chronic pain, so much so that it is impossible to put pressure on your jaws to eat anything unless it is soup..and it is so painful to talk as your jaw is in so much pain, and it seems as if the top jaw will not sit properly over the bottom jaw. Nothing to cure it but to take neurofen or paracentomals etc until it goes by itself. A diet of tomato soup is the most boring!!! Not fancying pureed roast dinner tomorrow!!!

I also have restless legs and arms but thankfully it doesn't bother me too often. I can sometimes go months without any trouble at all but then get it two nights in a row. It doesn't seem to be linked to my Diabetes at all either, just an unlucky coincidence I think :?
