Hi I have just phones surgery for results cholsterol 6.8 she said sugar still raised. Blood serum 8.6
can anyone shed any light on what the blood serum means please is this good or bad, I have an appointment for monday morning to discuss with gp.

Cheers Tracey

Hi Tracy,if she means that the 'blood serum' is your Hba1c then yes it is high. Please contact the surgery again and ask for a better explanation and write it all down.

Thanks Sue, gotta head back to work now, will try to phone them during afternood tea break.

Right just back from dr's. My hba1c was 6.8 same as cholesterol. So he said I am not diabetic but just a lady with high blood sugar. Get thee on a low fat low carb diet. So there we go scare over for this year, lol.

Thanks for help and advice.

Tracey

Tracy please get a second opinion on that diagnosis. My Hba1c is 6.6% and i am definitely diabetic!!

Hi Tracey,
I would be very concerned if the results you are quoting were mine.
As Sue says, you need a second opinion and I would ask if he has proposed any treatment for your high cholesterol level.
Hope this post doesn't upset you but I think it would be better to find out sooner than later that you are a diabetic.

Regards,
Catherine.

Hi all,

He said that below 7% was classed as non diabetic. As for the cholesterol i asked about treatment and he said statins not necessary as i was not diabetic. Just the dietry advice.

Think i better get that 2nd opinion.

Tracey

Please do Tracy.I know that you do not want to be diabetic but ,if you start treatment and diet now it could save you complications in the future. He is partially right about your cholesterol, you can bring it down with diet but ,at the level that yours is I would think you may be better with a statin to help bring it down as well as diet.

So glad you came back to this. What he said is a load of ***********!!
I wasn't a Diabetic when I went on a statin and my level was lower than yours.

If you aren't diabetic you aren't far off.

That's the bad news, the good news is that the sooner you start acting like a diabetic the more likely you are to avoid the diagnosis!

Significantly dropping your carb input and eating more non-carby veggies, protein and fats will almost certainly improve your lipids. Really you need a Full Lipid Panel to get the separate numbers for HDL LDL and triglycerides which hopefully your new doctor will do.

I will predict that you will show low HDL, high LDL and sky high trigs, otherwise known as "diabetic dyslipidemia"

You could search on "metabolic syndrome" and "insulin resistance" to see what is probably going on

the blood tests just done included hdl ldl and triglicerides, i did not get figures cos i just trust him and leave. Phone call making appointment tomorrow i feel.
