This is DEFINITELY one to read...
Paradigm shift: Rethinking type 2 diabetes as a heterogeneous disease
by Dr. Steven R. Smith, TRI
"I believe the primary reason we aren’t effectively treating diabetes today is because our current understanding of this disease is quite rudimentary. Our lack of awareness and appreciation about the inherent complexity and heterogeneity of diabetes has confined us to a one-size-fits-all paradigm for managing this disease. For millions of patients, this approach is simply not working.

"Our current methodology of trial-and-error drug development and prescribing is neither prudent nor sustainable—and its days are numbered....."

I found this very interesting (what I understood) but from where we are now with our treatment of DB I cant see an change

At last! The voice of reason! This should be copied in 3 feet high letters and sent to every HCP involved in the treatment of diabetes.!

The whole model of medicine is shifting to one that is centered on patient subpopulations—defining, identifying and grouping patients by disease subclassifications, and then prescribing treatment regimens tailored to those subclassifications.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE! BUT - it is not an easy task, and although I'd like to believe it will happen, I doubt very much that it's going to.

Ay my annual review today the Dr said something about "guidelines being just that but treatment had to be adapted to the individual" and proceeded to take notice of various issues I had. I am still in shock!

Normally everything is referred to the Practice Diabetes Nurse. I keep expecting to awake and find t was all a dream!

Wow, pinch yourself next time... just in case it is all a dream...
Mind you the laser doc insisted on personal monitoring being essential... after meals and not the tosh the nurse told me about a few mornings a week being enough... He did not have much to offer as regards diet tho agreeing it is difficult.
One day I will meet a medic who is also T1 or T2... do not wish it on anyone but it adds veracity... 8)
