I had a retinal eye screen test in January 2013 i received a letter dated 27th January 2013 that i had changes which requires further assesment. We are refering you to your local hospital eye clinic. It is very impotant that you attend this appointment. Despite telephoning to ask about the appointment i am just told that i am on the waiting list. It is now 5 months since the screening should it take this long

No it should only be a matter of a few days ring them up and get yourself seen as soon as you can. The consultant told me that actually there was nothing to worry about just that my optician had been a little trigger happy with the referral but it was a worry for a while so get yourself seen .

Diagnosed Type II 1998 1 x 80 mg Gliclazide, 4 x 500mg Metformin and 1 x 100mg Sitagliptin - HbA1c - 48 mmol/mol

I don't mean to be rude, but I'm surprised that : you've waited so long. That you're asking people who have nothing to do with the hospital. Give them a call and they'll sort you out. I'd do it quickly as they did say it was important.
Good luck. I do worry about retinopathy.
