Retinopathy laser treatment side effects?

Messages

Hi I've recently had my first laser treatment for diabetic retinopathy they lasered the macular (the centre of the retina) the process seemed to go fine, I had a bit of discomfort after, my sight is fine but I have since been getting more headaches and where I usually was able to read on the train it now makes me feel sick, even if I don't read I can still feel a bit ill and if I look at a computer screen for too long I fill ill too...I have basically developed motion sickness! Is this a result of the treatment or is it something else? Has anyone else experienced anything like this? If it's cos of the treatment will it wear off? My treatment was only a few weeks ago so hoping it's maybe just an adjustment! Feeling pretty miserable tho as I never get headaches so to suddenly have them pretty much every day because of having to travel on a train sucks a lot! If it's permanent does anyone have any coping techniques? Thanks Kat x

I've had scatter laser (both eyes) and macular laser (right eye only) so far, and the symptoms you describe aren't in my experience personally- I'd still ask for a wee chat with the eye specialist though, as they will know better than I can what symptoms can show up.

For myself, I've essentially lost my peripheral vision and my night vision is very poor now- BUT my central sight is still reasonable, and that counts for a lot.

Thanks hun! Think you're right I'll give them a ring tomorrow cos these headaches are really getting annoying and like you said its good to check these things out! Thanks for letting me know your experience! All the best with it! x
