Sorry if what follows appears whimpish. I have been given a date for my screening test at the end of this month which I really appreciate is necessary, however, having been subjected to many eye tests as a child due to a birth mark covering my iris I am very scared of anything to do with eyes -mine or anyone else's!

I have read all the info sent to me and looked at the web I am wondering if there is someone out there who can put my mind at rest. I know it sounds silly but I am almost ready to blub now at the very thought of the test! :(

It's all really quite straightforward. Depending on the imaging equipment that is used, you might or might not be given drops to dilate your eyes and then you will have pictures taken of the back of your eyes. I was quite terrified of it because I'm a total wimp when it comes to eyes, but it turned out to be non-invasive - I just had to lean against a camera thingie and look at the light and in the end I didn't need to have my eyes dilated.

Thanks Didie it's the drops I hate the thought of more than anything else! I hate even the puff of air for glaucoma test at the opticians. Thanks once again!

Hi,
I actually had this test yesterday. (2nd one since diagnosis April 2011). Really do not worry. Yes they put drops in your eyes which made my eyes water and sting - that soon wears off. Then you wait apx. 15 minutes for your pupils to dilate and then have 4 photo images taken. I was shown the photos on the computer and told everything looked normal. Will receive a letter in 3 weeks. Don't be nervous , better to have the check than not. Good luck
