Retinopathy

My recent retinopathy test results have just arrived and apparently my eyes show some retinopathy, I will therefore need another check in 6 months instead of a year. I am not really getting answers from my surgery and what I'd like to know is can this be reversed at all in the early stages? I keep begging for the means to self test and strongly feel any damage could have been prevented, I find it stressful after being used to self testing to no longer being able to and so being unsure what my blood sugar levels are. I try so hard to avoid eating the wrong foods

Any advice welcome, I am really struggling with diabetes now (14 years since diagnosed, last 3 year with no means to self test?

Hi and welcome to the forum DaisyCris.

I read an article some time ago that said 50-60% of people who develop background retinopathy don't go on to reach the next stage, so there is some hope there.

The following website is an excellent place to read about diabetic retinopathy:

As for bg testing, I assume your gp has withdrawn your test strips as you say you use to test your bg, perhaps now that you have the first signs of retinopathy in the eyes this could be a good enough reason to argue your case to have them put back on your prescription, no guarantees but it's imperative now that you monitor your bg and any straight thinking Dr will see this.
