Blitz cauliflower florets in a blender (or grate it by hand if you're old skool) and either steam it for plain "rice" or stir fry it with some curry-ish spices for "pilau". Not quite the same as rice, but gives a comforting illusion.

No suggestions for nan, I'm afraid; would be interested to hear any suggestions.

Yours sincerely, A. Curryholic :)

Try Pearl Barley.
It takes a little more cooking than rice and needs some experimenting to get the right raw Barley/water ratio.
But...... After you've tried it, test for your BG level to see if Barley is right for you.

I can manage a small amount of brown basmati rice Worth a test as it is very filling.Poppadoms. are lower carb than naans and can be used to scoop up the curry ,fry them in hot oil Lovely !

Sorry, I got called away before I could finish my last post.
I also loved curries but now can't take the rice.
If the Barley doesn't work for you (and it doesn't for me) try adding diced vegetables (carrots, eggplant, a bit of potato if you can handle it, whatever you can lay your hands on) to the mix.
The Veges don't affect the taste and you get a satisfying meal without the carbs.

I can cope with a bit of rice and a poppadom.
Im no good a pasta ,and I like spagg ball

Thank for the input folks, I did happen to see a couple of posts here on the same subject but figured it was a good idea to keep the flame burning, you never know.

I have a small portion of rice ....basmati ...more curry of course but it works for me ...
For me it's about reduced portion size ...
We don't need as much rice as we think we might ..

If you're looking for a low carb alternative, holland and Barrett health shops do a range of LO carb noodles, rice and pasta, which takes about five mins to cooks and tastes great mixed in with curries/ stews etc
