When people who know nothing about the LCHF diet tell me I'm killing myself being on it. I was killing myself not being on it!
For a number of years, on advice from my Dr's surgery, the practice nurse, in charge of diabetic advice, and who took my bloods, advised me to take plant sterols and not to take statins.... My Cholesterol levels were all good whilst on them, and before them..
Fast fwd a few years later:
Pushed by a new practice diabetic nurse to take statins, followed by pressure from Dr. So I took their 'advice/pressure' and have been on Rosuvastatin for around a year. My joints are now really aching.
So my question is: Do any of you take plant sterols rather than statins and is your cholesterol good with them?
Thanks for reading this!

I have the faulty gene that causes high cholesterol. For many years it was ignored by GP as "my good cholesterol was high, as well as the bad!" Finally (after being taken to a&e with suspected stroke (it wasnt) and hospital discovering cholesterol 9.4!, I was told to go to my GP and put on statins. For years ive struggled with joint pains, preventing me from taking a high enough dose of statins to get cholesterol down to acceptable level. Its remained around 6.4. Statins increased again, joint pain ensued. So I reduced statins and instead took high quality British Supplements plant sterols. My gp shouted at me and told me plant sterols would NOT help. But bingo, cholesterol down to lowest level ever 5.4. Still work to do to get it down further, but 5.4 with no joint pain far better than 6.4 with aching joints! I can't drop statins completely because of the faulty gene. Wish I could. But plant sterols helped without a doubt!!! If your cholesterol is only a little high, they could work alone! Check your records and readings, don't just listen to GP.
