Rotating insulin injection sites

Hello all. I was diagnosed just under 2 months ago with type 1. At the moment the only place I inject is in to my belly, I find it much easier to do it in my belly as I work in an office so I just do everything at my desk before I go to lunch as the toilet is a good 2 minute walk away. I do rotate where on my belly I inject though.
  • Do you suggest changing sites or am I good to go with my belly for a further few months?
  • Where do you inject?

I was diagnosed 10 months ago and still inject NovoRapid only into my stomach. As long as you're careful to rotate the sites you should be good for longer. I occasionally get little bruises or bad absorption but find the belly is definitely the best place.

Always best to rotate your injection sites to prevent lipo problems further down the road, you could also use your arms which is quick and convenient and you don't have to leave your desk.

Rotate around your front as much as you can and changing needles reduces complications like lipo problems.

You can do breakfast and dinner in your arms, legs or bum if tum is easier at lunchtime.

I rotate (unless I'm feeling lazy!) and will normally use arms or stomach (during the day). But personally I actually prefer using my backside because (although I am slim) there is still a much bigger area for rotation in that area alone.

At supper time and bed time when I'm normally at home it will be legs or backside..

Isn't the absorption time much slower when using your backside, though? I'm worried I'm over using my abdomen area but concerned that, if I try another area such as bum, the absorption will be slower and I'll need to re-think my injection times.

I can't say I've had any issues regarding that, I've been rotating and using my backside for almost 34 years.

The thing is that if you over use a certain area over time absorption will become an issue anyway or the insulin stores in the hard fatty tissue that has resulted and it can release some time later causing hypoglycemia.

It's normally my Lantus that I inject into my backside so it doesn't really make too much of a difference but as I said when I have injected my Novorapid there I have never experienced any absorption issues.

I also find it so much more comfortable in the bum. It can really hurt me at times in my stomach !
