Worth the hassle or not? I had a run planned for this afternoon. Nothing major, 2.5K round the park and home. But it is GUSHING and windy. I'm tempted to just man up and go anyway but I think it might put me off running even more!

Re: Running in the rain

dont do it. if your that dedicated go to a gym!

Re: Running in the rain

I say go for it, don't be a fair-weather runner

I'm not dedicated at all, that's the issue I think if it's just drizzling when I get home then I'll go, but if it goes back to pouring ill have to sit it out I think!

My pup loves running but doesn't love the rain so he will be having the same mental dilemma as me haha

My dogs the same, have to drag him out when its raining

Re: Running in the rain

I went out for a 5k this lunchtime. It was chucking it down but I figured you can only get the once and we are lucky to have good showers at work.

I felt rather proud of myself - silly as it sounds!!

We have great showers too (apparently) but I haven't tried lunch time running yet. My main purpose is to tire the dog out and he's not at work with me haha

He gets cold and shivers. I'm disgusted to say in considering a coat to keep him semi dry over winter so we can still actually enjoy our walks and runs

Re: Running in the rain

Man up and just do it!!!

Honestly, the hardest part is getting out the door. And you can't beat the feeling of accomplishment and smugness when you complete the run despite the odds.

Put on your running gear and get out the door!

Re: Running in the rain

Skin is fairly waterproof and most people dry quite easily. You will find me in the bar when your done.

Re: Running in the rain

Most people dont appreciate people out running in just skin

Don't do it Hale  Dogs are tough animals and don't need protection from the cold and rain, my wife's Aunty has dogs and they sleep outside (farmers).

So you LIED when you said you'd be in the pub!!

I've been resisting, but he was a nightmare last winter and my dog walker is already commenting that he's just shutting down on walks and shivering. I think he's the one who needs to man up lol

Re: Running in the rain

Yup wishful thinking. Though the exercise Genie has not dragged me out of the door yet.

Re: Running in the rain

Some dogs do need protection. Those with thinner coats, elderly or health conditions, for example. Many breeds were created in warmer climates and need protection during our harsher weather. I had to extremes here; a husky who couldn't be exercised when temps got above 12 degrees, and a sighthound who needs her coat on for walks on cold or very wet days. Not every dog is the same.

Re: Running in the rain

I gave in and did 3.5miles. Can I have a beer now?

My Jack Russel needs a coat when its cold. He is 13ish though

My wee jack from years ago needed one too, he'd a wee baldy belly and used to shiver like mad!

Well done you, you deserve at least two beers now for that run.
