A new U.S. study provides the first conclusive evidence that shifting from saturated fat to polyunsaturated fat is likely to lower the risk of Heart Disease by nearly 20%.
If you click on the link at the end of the article, PloS Medicine, you will get a more indepth piece.
Effects on Coronary Heart Disease of Increasing Polyunsaturated Fat in place of Saturated Fat. A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised control trials,
I was very interested in reading this article. It was nice to note that they stated that there was little scientific evidence to link a reduction in the intake of saturated fat to the prevention of heart disease.
However this “study” is a review of previously collected data from different studies which has been pooled and analysed. The article states that you have to be careful which you include and which you exclude.
I’m no expert but am sceptical of these kinds of studies because what data you have excluded can radically change the outcome. Could changing the included/excluded data maybe even disprove the hypothesis and have a result that saturated fats are better than polyunsaturated? Who knows?
