I never buy ready mae sauces, but you ALWAYS need to read the info panel. It's not difficult to spice foods yourself. I says Zero carb, so it probably is and thus OK

Thanks Hana, new to diabetes so not sure what kind of sauces i can have, was just checking some low carb sites and came across it

Thanks again

It's low carb, best way is to try it and test 2 hours after.

I made ribs and wings the other day and put nandos mild peri peri sauce on them, only 8.4g carbs per 100 and 7.7g sugar per 100, bottle is 250g and by the time cooked spam sauce left in pan was not a lot of sauce but tasted great and levels did not rise by more than 0.5 after 2 hours.

Thanks Bio, love nandos sauce too....Just want to try a few options and see what i can come up, will give that a go too

Thanks xx

Just be aware - those are spice blends, NOT sauces! Easy to make into a sauce though, using some tinned/fresh toms and some cream/yoghurt...

Thanks Patch, tinned tomatoes will do trick...What about passata? I used to use that a lot for making sauces too?

Thanks

Not sure about passata.

But one thing to be aware of with tomatoes, is - the longer you cook 'em, the bigger their effect on BG is. Cooking 'em for longer causes the sugar in them to break down more and are mor easily absorbed by your system...

I can give you a base for a creamy sauce I made completely by accident. Just steam/boil some cauliflower, when soft add a good knob of butter and some cream. This is where I made my mistake, normally I would put it in the food processor with the chopping blade, and just pulse it a couple of times, but I was talking and doing 3 and four other things and I put the creaming blade in and didn't pulse for just a couple of seconds. Result a really creamy cauliflower sauce. You could add cheese, garlic, well anything you like to the basic "mistake" sauce. :D

Sounds good Defren, will give it a try :D and thanks Patch, will keep that in mind too

I get quite a lot of stuff from the low carb megastore, and it seems to do what it says. So if you like the sauces, go for it; I'm sure they will be fine. Incidentally, Unkess you are seriously close to zero carb, what about the normal curries you can get at the deli in supermarkets? The chicken Jalfrezis are only about 7 grams carbs per portion. Sainsburys do a new line of tinned curries that are suprisingly good, and half a tin of Jalfrezi (one portion) is again 7 grams carbs, the Baltis are a little more. For me, that's low enough in carbs. You have to judge how low you need to go, hopefully by testing.
