Hi everyone

I decided to join this forum for some support and any helpful hints and tips I can pick up along the way. My 32 year old fiance has had type 1 since he was 11.

I've been with him going on 2 years now but haver never witnessed a severe hypo until last night. Until then I never took his condition too seriously as it always seemed to be controlled and he never complains or moans. But last night gave me the biggest fright of my life, I thought I was losing him. I got a crash course in what to do when I called his parents at 1am and managed to get him to drink lucozade and he came round. I was of course petrified to go to sleep after that while my fiance gave it the big loud Zsss lol.

I'm now taking his condition much more seriously, trying not to make a big deal out of it but can't help fussing over him at the minute. Looking forward to chatting with you guys xxx

Hi and welcome! :)

Hope your man is fine today, not a very nice experience for you, but it sounds like you handled it very well.

Well done  I've not seen anyone having a hypo other than the lady in Asda the other day, but she was already lying down and being attended to.
Does your fiance have any glucose tablets or sachets of glucogel

Thanks everyone!!

Chris - by sheer luck we had some tesco equivalent Lucozade, I had almost forgotten they were there as my fiance stuck them on top of the fridge and never thought to tell me they were there.

It was a lesson to us both - be better prepared. From now on we'll have a glucose drink sitting by the bedside and he's going order glucozon (not sure if that's the right spelling) which is the glucose injection which I'm told will have a much quicker effect to bring him round quicker. Means I need to learn how to give him an injection but I'll happily do it - there's too much at stake not to. What's the glucogel??

He's checking his BM levels before bedtime each night now. I managed to get a sleep last night which was great although anytime he made noises I jumped up to attention ready for action....then the noise would follow a snore  so I knew he was ok.

Take a while to get over the fright I think but preparation is key from now on!!! xx

the injection is for when you are too far gone to take anything orally and can leave u feeling terrible, glucotabs are quick and also the glucostop gel which if you arent well enough to eat ,someone can squirt gel into your mouth which works very quick :D hope this helps
