Secondary school timetable

I do not have diabetes
Hi my daughter has been diagnosed with type 1 for 18 mths an is now in yr 10. Her diabetes has become a little erratic, this is making her extremely tired an lack concentration in school. I have asked school if they can reduce her timetable and drop RE as it isn't essential. They are very reluctant and their suggestion was she came out a lesson if she felt tired, had a rest and then returned. This would create more stress and make her feel uncomfortable an also disrupt her an other students. Has anyone else experienced this or offer advice. Jan x
 
Hi. My daughter is only 6 so a lot younger but i can totally sympathise with you. I worry that due to frequent hypos at school shes missing out on lessons but school have assured me shes doing fine. Sorry not really much help to you. Hope you get something sorted x

I would ask for another meeting, then another and another to keep discussing this. Persistence in the nices possible way. This would probably work in our school. The issue is probably where would she go? Who would supervise her? Is there somewhere for her to go? We have a centre for young people but not all schools have or are able to have this. Can you get any support from your doc - a letter would be good. What Gcses is she doing? Could she also miss PE? Hope this helps.
