Hi ..... can anyone relate to this?
I have been wearing glasses for about 10 years (distance & reading)
I started the Newcastle diet 1 wk ago.
After 6 days on the diet my eyesight improved!
I can now watch tv without glasses & today I drove without them............... Puzzled!

Suprisingly quite common. Lowering your blood sugar levels changes your vision. That's why you shouldn't go for an eye test when you're running high blood sugar levels - you'll get the wrong prescription. A typical symptom of high blood sugar for people who DON'T wear glasses is blurred vision. You probably had high blood sugar for ages before you were diagnosed, so were getting glasses to suit the blurred vision that came with it.

I had incredibly acute distance vision when I went onto insulin, I would have made a fantastic sniper... but I couldn't watch the TV in my hospital room as it seemed too close. After a short while, my eyes changed again .I normally only wear glasses for driving and small televisions but I had to go back to a pair that was a few years old, some I had bought more recently were slightly to strong)
When your glucose levels are high there is increased osmotic pressure which alters the amount of liquid in your eye. This changes the shape of the lens. This can happen very gradually so you adapt to the new shape. When your glucose levels lower, this reverses and the amount of liquid alters again and alters the shape again. If the change in glucose levels is large then this can push the lens completely in the other direction so vision may alter dramatically as it did with me. If your blood glucose levels stabilise in the normal range then your sight will end up where they should be .

thanks Grazer & Phoenix  that all makes sense now. my glucose levels have gone from being very high for a prolonged period to being almost normal - thats with full medication - so i'll need some new glasses very soon ........
