Hi,

First post here, and I'm curious as to whether my symptoms may be related to diabetes.

I'm a 23 year old male, about 107kg in weight, 177cm height. My diet recently (past 6-8months) has been very bad due to university stress, so I've been binging a lot on sugar throughout the day and night, and I have some very bad eating habits at 3 or 4am normally.

I've been having these 'episodes' of weakness, palpitations/heart flutters, dizziness and confusion after not eating for more than 2-2.5hours, but once I do eat or have something sugary/carby I feel a lot better.

Today it happened again, I was in town for a few hours, and it was about 2 hours I'd say since I had last eaten. I felt pretty hungry but there was a long queue in the restaurant I went to, so ended up waiting 50+ minutes there. Whilst waiting my whole body suddenly felt really weak, like this fuzzy feeling in my arms legs and body, then my heart started fluttering, and I just felt so weak like I had to sit down or lay down. I felt confused for a short period whilst I went to order, when I did order and have some full fat coke I felt a bit better. My heart rate was pretty fast still, and I felt dizzy. Fast forward about 3-4h I feel a lot more stable now, just extremely tired.

I'm not experienced on diabetes or anything like that, would anyone know whether what I've described could be related to that? Or whether I should see my doctor or anything?

Thank you for reading!

These sounds like typical symptoms of reactive hypoglycemia... ie a common trigger is high carbs meals leading to high level of insulin secretion which then results in low blood glucose. But there may be other underlying causes of high insulin secretion that you want to exclude...

You could dicuss this with your doctor and verify this officially thru a 4-5 hr Oral glucose test.

Yeah, agree with kokhongw above me. Sound like typical symtoms of reactive hypoglycemia, which are the complete opposite of diabetes.

You describe your symptoms a little vaguley, but if you did experience other symptoms as well, such as shaking, blurry vision, cold sweat, disorientation, foggy mind, I would say it''s very likely you had a hypo.

Anyway, go talk to your doctor, just to make sure :)
