i posted a message on saturday regarding extremely high blood sugars in my dad after a stroke. he was admitted to hospital for this on saturday afternoon and discharged back to the stroke rehab centre yesterday.
this morning (monday) we received a call to say that he had suffered a series of seizures and was being rushed back into hospital with BM of 32! He has been in a state of semi conciousness all day in ICU and with an IV drip his BM is now stable at 9.
we know that seizures can either be caused by
a further stroke
a symptom of the original stroke
high blood sugar
the cat scan showed that no further stroke or damage to the brain has been caused.
we tried all day to speak to a consultant with no success, and we would at this stage speculate that the high blood sugar has caused the seizures but we really need to chat this thro' with someone. we have suspected for the last week that his diabetes has been affected dreadfully by the stroke but as previously mentioned it seems difficult for the hospital to join the dots.
can anyone please give any advice or even recommend a private diabetes consultant in the ayrshire area that we can have an emergency consultation with.
