Self testing blood glucose 16.3

Since been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 8 weeks ago I've joined the gym and changed my diet.I invested in a self testing monitor, and every time I've used it my reading has been pleasing ,between 5 and 7.As a result I thought I'd reward myself with a barbecue and a few beers over the weekend. As a matter of curiosity I decided to test my blood sugars at the end of the weekend, and they were a whopping 16.3.The reading has really got me down.I feel like it's a life of constantly controlling diabetes or no life at all.Does anyone else feel the same?

Because booze is a toxin it delays the effects of carby foods so higher blood glucose levels remain high until the liver has dealt with the beer/sweet wines etc. You could try moderate amounts of red wine or shorts (with no sugar mixers) to lesson this affect.

With barbecues stick to the meats and salads and leave out the hot dog rolls and the burger buns. Take care with anything that comes in a sauce too.

Please don't feel that your Diabetes is controlling you, as time passes and new practices become habit then this feeling really does fade away. And while a reading in the mid teens is to be avoided the odd treat is never out of the question forever. Hope you feel more positive soon.
