Hi.

For the last 2 days I have gone completely 0 carbs. Over the last 2 months I have been cutting my carbs drastically, trying paleo and eating little bits of carbs, but because I'm getting such a reaction to any carbs I am having to go completely 0 carbs.

My withdrawal symptoms are an absolute nightmare. I am having to be nursed through it by my mum. I am dizzy, confused, shaky, it feels like full drug withdrawal. I am having plenty of electrolytes and fat, but I can't begin to explain how terrible I feel mentally.

Has anyone else experienced carb withdrawal this bad? Will it pass?

Hope you feel better soon. I believe this to be common, even when reducing carb intake slightly let alone completely to zero - known as low carb flu

When I suffered with a mild form of it, I didn’t feel myself for a couple of weeks although most of the literature says a few days.

What are you typically eating at the moment?

Sorry but why are you trying to go.. no carbs.. what reaction are you getting from carbs who told you to try to go no carbs. Yes your symptoms are almost certain to be to do with that going to low to soon. You do not say what type diabetes you have or how long you have had it

Hi @benjo123456,

So sorry to hear that you are going through this. To be honest, I didn't have such a hard time as you are facing.

Do you measure your blood sugar levels? Are they lower now than what you are used to? Could it be that your body isn't used to the new lower blood sugar levels yet?

Thanks for your replies. I have been left no choice but to do this because everyone I eat any carbs, even veg, I have been reacting terribly to them. I've seen doctors and dietitians, and their theory is that my body is reacting against carbs after years of abusing them. Anyway, carbs are completely out.
I am not diabetic, but have been having hypoglycemic episodes as I reduced my carbs.
I'm not sure there's anything I can do but ride through this, and hope my body does eventually sort itself out.

Hi @benjo123456,

Have you tried increasing your protein levels? Protein usually increases my blood sugar levels just a bit -- maybe in the neighborhood of 0.6 mmol. Usually this increase lasts for many hours.
