Although 60 years of age, just lately my own sex drive has got worse. I still want, and have the thoughts regarding sex but find it difficult to maintain it. My sugar levels have gone up over the last few months and last month had two stents fitted. Would those and my increased sugar levels be having an effect?

Thanks

Hi @Flexpen ,

Welcome to the forum.

I notice from your previous post you are Type 1.?
Increased BG can have this effect for some guys. (Whatever type D.) Control is paramount..

Have you tried raising this issue with your GP or HCPs..?

Hi

Yes I have.
Maybe other things are causing the problem as well as I am currently out of work and struggling to find anything because of my age. Also been suffering with calcium build up in my arteries of which I have had to have two stents inserted. Things are not good at the moment and money is running out.
Previously never had a problem sexually.

Seem's like you have a lot going on mentally. Are you getting enough sleep, or are worries going around in your head? All this can have an effect on one's sex life. Maybe have another word with your doctor.

Sorry to hear that @Flexpen. Hopefully your GP can consider offering one of the medications that can treat ED in most cases. If it doesn't work, then a referral to a specialist may be in order.

Are you getting help from a cardiac team? They usually have nurses and others who can help a person adjust after stent placement. I'm so glad your cardiac issue was picked up and treated.

If your blood sugars are running high, that won't be helping you feel better, either. Can make you feel fatigued, which tends to lower the mood, as I've experienced first hand this year. Feel free to ask any questions you like and we will see what we can do to help.

Hi @Flexpen .
Stress is a real dampener on sexual function as others have said. And messes with Bsl control, i find. I wonder if you have been prescribed medicines for your heart and blood vessel troubles which could be affecting your sex drive and function ? Your doctor would be able to advise on such side-effects and suggest any possible alternative medicines that might have less or none of these side-effects.
Since various hormones are known to be important for sexual function maybe your doctor might check to see if there are problems there.
As for ED medications, if you goggle restrictions on use, you would see that heart problems raise a caution flag for their use.
If there are is nothing found to explain your troubles, perhaps counselling might help to enable you to reduce your stress. Of course having employment drop out of the sky and land at your feet maybe the magical answer advwe all wish it upon you. Please keep trying in the meantime and put your best foot forward with interviews and applications.
Please do whatever you can to maintain a sense of humour. Humour dispels stress even for a while. I often go to the local library where they have the daily newspaper and read the comics page first.
Also keep saying hello to people, remain open to conversation and not closed off. Confidence is an attractant!!
