I had a car crash back in 2011 and as a precaution the following day I went to my GP for a check up. As a part of the check up he took a random BG reading and few days later I was called to go and see him again. He took another random test and told me that I had Type 2 diabetes and send me home with not much explanation. The shock was enormous. Few months later visiting my parents for Christmas abroad I went to a private clinic and they carried out the OGTT test 3 times (over 3 consecutive days) The fasting test in the morning on the first an the last day were a bit higher ( 7.0 and 7.1) but the test after drinking the glucose drink came all below 6.5 Their opinion was that it was that I wasn't Diabetic, at most extreme I was border line (need to loose some weight, watch what you eat etc.) I came back, showed the results to my GP but he still insisted that I had Type 2 diabetes. He started sending me to hospital for all sorts of diabetes monitoring tests ( eye tests an so on) but everyone was surprised how good my results are - nothing to suggest that I am diabetic. I bought a tester and started to test myself. Every now and again I will get an abnormal reading but now when I think about it maybe I was testing at the wrong time, I don't know. I stopped going to my GP as I was angry with him and last year I decided to loose some weight. I cut out all sweets and reduced the the carbohydrates to minimum. Managed to loose 3 stones (went down to 14.5) in 2 months. All the time I was monitoring my BG and every reading I took was in the healthy margins ( non diabetic) Since then I put back some of the weigh back but my readings are 90% of the time in the non diabetic margins. I didn't think anything about my GP and his diagnosis until 2 weeks ago when I had to renew my life insurance. I used a broker and I told him about my diabetic " diagnosis" story when it came to the health questions. He checked with someone and said it was OK. When the insurance company I took the policy with send me back the paperwork I noticed that under the question about diabetes they had " no" as an answer. I contacted them and explained again the whole saga. Their underwriters couldn't make a decision and are now requesting my medical history from my GP. In a mean time they have also cancelled my policy ( seems like it doesn't bear fruit to be honest all the time ). I know what my GP is going reply and I strongly disagree with him. Can I challenge him? Am I diabetic after all? Thanks
