Anyone on here work shifts? My husband is type1 and has just got a new job which involves 3am starts & its playing havoc with his levels & hes having way too many hypos. waiting on a clinic appt but looking for any advice in the meantime

Don't do shift work now but have done in the past, some more information would be helpful.

He is basically having 2 short sleeps through a day instead of 1 long sleep but the last few weeks he is taking hypos in his sleep and due to being so tired he isnt waking up with the signs it is me that is waking and giving him something to help.

Looks like his basal insulin dose may need adjusting (some basal checks need to be carried out) unless he is eating and injecting before he goes to sleep and is miscalculating the carbs in his food, is your husband quite confident at carb counting, if not then he may find the following useful which is an on-line carb counting course:

That is what I thought, the clinic told him to reduce it by 10% but personnally I think it needs more of an adjustment but not being a dr myself I dont want to mess about with his insulin without some sort of confirmation. He has never had any problems like this before and has always been very capable at his carb counting but I will certainly get him to look at the online course as it cant do any harm.

The on-line course should cover things like basal testing, if not then have a look at the following which is advice for pump users but the procedure is just the same as for someone on injections:

Maybe best that he contacts his diabetes team and asks them what he should do with his bg results, if you ring the diabetes clinic up they will normally speak to you over the phone or ring you back if the DSN's are busy.
