Shin splints or neuropathy?

Hi there, i'm looking for some advice please. I am going to see my GP at the end of the week but just thought i'd see if any one has experienced this.

I am a Type 1 diabetic and was diagnosed 2.5 years ago. My blood sugars are not particularly well controlled at the moment, the heat plus stress is contributing to this and try as I might, I can't seem to get them much below 12 without taking far too much insulin and hypo'ing :(

Last week or the week before ( i can't remember exactly when) I started to get pain in my left shin, mostly when I walk, it felt like a shooting sharp pain up my leg. This has gradually got worse and now I have it in both shins, going from my ankle all the way up to my knee. It hurts a lot when i walk and the pain is like a dull ache when i sit down.

My husband thinks it may be shin splints, but i don't run or exercise  and my weight is probably a bit low for my height as my BMI is 17 but I wondered if it could be the start of diabetic neuropathy? Can you get it this early on in your diagnosis?

I had similar symptoms years ago and dr at hospital clinic actually said I was imagining it! The pain on walking was excruciating and got worse the further I walked and could go numb around my ankle. A teacher on a course I was attending, who also taught PE, said it was lactic acid and to warm up before walking. It worked. Hope this is what it is for you. Always best to get thinhs checked by your doctor though. Don't let them fob you off. Best of luck
