I think I may have it :( (actually, I'm pretty sure I do have it); does anyone know of a link between T2 and shingles? I know shingles is caused by Return of the Chickenpox Virus but wondered if there's any correlation between T2 and increased occurrence of shingles, or any additional factors to be taken into account as a result of being T2?

So far as I can tell, treatment consists of covering the rash in calomine lotion, if it itches, and/or taking painkillers if it hurts. You're also warned to keep it covered to avoid infecting others which, given that the rash is on my back and it's winter, isn't exactly one of the Labours of Hercules. Given there's not much that the wonders of modern medicine can do, above and beyond this, to help treatment, is there any point going to the Quack and wasting my time and his/hers, only to be told what I already know?

Yes there is a good reason to go to your GP. You can get antivirals for shingles. They vastly reduce the discomfort, severity and more importantly the length of time you will be suffering. Before the use of antivirals I well remember my Mum and Aunt suffering from shingles for over 6 months. I had it 24 years ago and it only lasted around 3 weeks? and wasn't too much of a problem to me.

I usually am the last person to say 'go to a GP' but in this instance I am saying get there asap. It's worth it.

I had recurring shingles for a couple of years but have been taking Aciclovir for nearly a year now and haven't had a single flare since. It's definitely worth going to the doctor to confirm, and just in case you do get it again the doctor will have a record of it.
