Has anyone tried this? It's essentially zero carb or calories,made from elephant yam and mostly fibre. I heard so much about it but not sure how to cook it. Stirred fried or pasta style??
Haha I reacted the same. But i read that's been in japan for centuries and made from yam. So it's food and I'm very eager to try it. I am assuming Asian style cooking is the best! Just read that they absorb taste pretty well. Report back after I find it and try cooking it.
I love them, as a texture substitute for noodles or pasta (spaghetti, fettuccine) in a good sauce. They have no taste on their own, unlike, for example, courgetti (courgette ribbons) or spinach, which I also use as a pasta substitute.
I tend to stock up at Holland & Barrett's penny sale, which comes up every few months or so. Slim Pasta/Noodles/etc. are usually £2.99 per pack (large serving or two small portions).
I just found them. Where I'm at, you can get different brands and apparently taste. It comes in noodles or in blocks which I guess you can chop or slice them into shapes you like. They are about £1-2 each packet. They are also soaked in water! I guess it's all fibre and water.
I've tried several brands and IMO the best are Slendier organic konjac fettucine from Ocado. I felt bloated after eating them, I seemed to put on weight not lose it, they have zero nutritional value and yet, it felt great to have a proper spag bog !
I finally tried cooking these noodles. I started with some chopped garlic with sesame oil and stir fried until slightly brown. Threw in the noodles and stir fried it to get it to taste like udon. Threw in a can of chilli tuna, stir fried again. And finally serve it with a fried egg and fried shallots on top for extra taste and texture. So far it is very tasty! I'll keep buying these noodles. Tomorrow I'll try to make carbonara with these.
