Type of diabetes
Type 1
I have just been discharge from the diabetes clinc after 3 weeks don't understand as she said my numbers where ok

Is this 3 weeks after diagnosis as type 1? Or have you been diagnosed a while and referred up to the clinic for a particular problem?

Yes I was type 2 and thay put me on insulin and only been 3 times and told today I don't have togosny more

Have they said that you were misdiagnosed as type 2 and you are actually type 1? Or, are you an insulin dependent type 2?

What insulin regime are you on? Do you feel confident in using and adjusting your insulin? When the nurse says your numbers are ok, what kind of numbers are you having?

If you are managing ok on the new insulin, it's not uncommon to be managed by your GP. But if you feel like you need more support its fine to ask to be referred back to the clinic. You should also have contact details for your DSN and I'm sure they would be happy to help with any queries on managing the insulin you might have going forward. You could also ask your GP for a referral to a DAFNE/carb counting course (I think they are available to type 2s on insulin).

Thay say I was type 2 and thay put me on insulin I have Apidra 10 mi at breakfast ,dinner tea,and Lantus 10ml at night,
My numbers 6.8 6.6 6.2 9.2 6.9 7.1 morning time Eventime 8.8 8.7 11.2 9.3 8.4 7.2 8.2 I was just supriced when she said it

If you are a type 2, going on insulin doesn't make you type 1, it makes you someone with type 2 diabetes who is on insulin.

It looks like you are getting to grips with the insulin well. Remember that you can contact the clinic for further support if you need it. Even if you just want a recap of why you have been discharged, who you should contact if you need more help and anything you should be mindful of in managing your diabetes on insulin, it's fine to contact the clinic to ask

Hi thank you for that well I feel ok and I have no prob with insulin its doesn't hold me back from doing things
Anyway thanks Cat nice to meet you Sam

Hi. In general T2s even on insulin are dealt with by the surgery unless they have no diabetes trained staff. You need to ensure you keep having reviews at the local surgery. With your 'good' bloods that would be annual. Ask for a blood/urine test form from reception and have that done 2 weeks before the review appointment. Ask reception for a diabetes appointment with the appropriate person at the surgery.

As @catapillar says hospital diabetes clinics can refer patients back to the care of their gp surgery if there's no issues with bg control.

If your happy with that decision then I'd stay with your gp for your diabetes care, but at any point in the future you experience problems which your gp surgery can't resolve then do ask for a referral back to the hospital clinic.

As a type 1 I find the care, knowledge & advice is far superior with a hospital diabetes clinic than that of my gp surgery.

Yes that's true as he is not that brill as he has got a couple of things wrong with me
