I had a phone appointment with the GP a few weeks ago, he told me that my blood results were in the pre-diabetic range. I managed to convince him that I'd give diet and exercise a try before talking to a diabetic nurse (although he did - comfortingly - say the words 'low carb' when I was talking to him.
Since then I've gone very low carb - I don't actually track the number, but eggs, cheese, nuts and green vegetables don't really seem worth counting just now. I've also started walking a lot more - I'm up to just over 5 miles a day now, from basically ... well, nothing really. I'm giving things like the Couch to 5k the stink eye right now because I am really not a runner, but I'm starting to think I need to do something else (and yes, I do know I need to add something more muscle building in there too)
At the start of the summer my BMI was just under 37, it is now just over 31 and I've lost 18kg. I also got some new shorts this morning, I can get into them, but it's a bit of a squeeze. The waist size is 6" less than the ones I bought a few months ago.
This isn't my first time with low carb - I lost a lot and then regained most of it several years ago - but I think/hope I have more incentive to keep going this time.
I am feeling remarkably chuffed with myself right now.
