Actually Kesun's perception is why I've become less keen on the 1.5 section because it isn't a defined condition. It's important that we have categories for diagnosis but there are times when I don't like boxes at all Any of us may have conditions, experience and knowledge that can overlap the various conditions. I don't think everyone should know about them either. (I just find it interesting) In any case there are far too many boxes for every one to fit nicely into them and just post on 'their' forum There is T1, (of which LADA is a subset) T2 which can cover very varied conditions and treatments , there is gestational and there is 'Others '* In the Others group, each 'other' condition is far less frequent than the main groups but there are still lots of people and potential members that have them. To my knowledge, we've had people with no pancreas, a person who had diabetes because he had too much iron in his blood, people who have different forms of MODY and of course MIDD . There are people with steroid induced diabetes and a person with cystic fibrosis induced diabetes. We've had the carer of a child with Downs (another cause of diabetes in the 'other's section) and another whose child had Prader Willi ....... Then there are those who may be misdiagnosed or may have used one type of treatment for some time and then changed for another and so may have some experience that isn't always obvious from a label. And whatever Type we have, we all share similar risks of complications . There are 3 main pillars of diabetes control, two; diet and exercise are shared by all of us. The third, medication is more specialised but people still don't fit into boxes; some T1s take metformin, some T2s take insulin (and those in the Others section may be insulin controlled or may be on other medications or none ) We may also all take similar medications for blood pressure, or cholesterol or thyroid etc etc. It all gets very complicated! ( *Others just refers to ' other specific types of diabetes' which is the term the ADA and the WHO use )
