I am type 2, still 'diet' controlled. WHENEVER i test i get readings no lower than 10. Nurse says I dont need tablets and carry on. Gave me a telling off for testing. I have itchy skin, nights sweats/hot flushes (although that might be my menopause symptoms, another thing the docs wont do owt about) Getting up for the loo, waking up to drink all night. Averaging about 4 hours a night kip, eat anything and I fight to stay awake. Numbness/tingling in arms from elbow down and legs from knees down. I suspect the menopause symptoms and ridiculoulsy heavy periods my have made me anemic. Palpitations, shortness of breath, mild chest pains. Blurred vision (just had eyes checked) How do I get the medical profession to take me seriously? Just get fobbed off everytime I go :banghead:

If your last a1c was 6.6 then something needs to be done. If you're not satisfied with your current healthcare team, is it possible for you to search for new doctors?

Dishonesty, selfishness and lack of empathy.
First things first - see either a different doc, or see if you can change practices. There is no point having a team that are not taking this seriously when it is affecting your quality of life.
Secondly - probably the best thing you can do to bring your ;levels down is to examine your diet and make any changes necessary. The usual starting tablet is Metformin, a good "all rounder" but something that actually has very little effect on levels, lowering them just a bit. I can't see why they could possibly object to you having them if it helps a bit, they are known to cause tummy upsets but I wouldn't think that's the reason! Can I ask what kind of foods you are eating Shelly? A lot of the "healthy" diet we are often advised to eat is anything but healthy for diabetics! Stuff like wholemeal bread, wholewheat pasta, brown rice can all raise the levels too. I totally understand the meno symptoms, shortness of breath and palps are probably down to that. Falling asleep easily is often a sign of high sugar levels, one of the commonest symptoms.

Can you give us some idea of what you eat, we might be able to give you a few pointers?

I actually work for a bread company as a school visitor. Preaching the eatwell plate at kids. I am of the firm belief that low fat high carb is the reason diabetes is on the rise. I admit to being naughty and having the occasional slice of bread, its very difficult in my job to abstain. Otherwise (when i am behaving) I tend to do LCHF. Partial to beer too, but switched to spirits with low cal mixer. Usually only drink once a week. That might be more this weekend with it being a long one ;)

Been at the current surgery for about 26 years. Its the DN nurse I have no faith in tbh....she just wants to chat about her horse (she knows I have one too)

How occasional is "occasional?";) Oh gawd, that Eatwell Plate is just so wrong:( Another possibility, especially with your high levels is maybe you are late onset type 1? It is possible..maybe you can tell the DN you don't want to talk about the gee-gees, but want a referral to a specialist hospital clinic. Time to be less friendly maybe?

Couple of slices 2/3 times a week (naughty I know) And you're right, need to get DN in 'business mode' rather than chatty matey mode, or swap and see someone else. That makes me feel bad but my health has to come first :/
