...be testing my blood sugar levels. I am Type 2 and was told by a previous diabetic nurse practioner that I do not need to test my sugar levels, however, I have days where I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat. I daren't sit down to watch television because I will be asleep before the credits have started. I dont know if this is linked to my diabetes or not.

Yes. It's an easy way to take control of your blood sugar. Test strips can be expensive but the for the Codefree are reasonable and you don't have to pay VAT as diabetc.

Totto, thanks for this. I am seeing the practice nurse on Tuesday for my legs, lymphodema and very thin skin which is broken in places. I will ask her about testing. It is a new doctor as I have recently moved so they may have a different take on testing my sugar levels.

Good luck with that - sometimes the "don't need to test" is actually a cover for cost cutting exercises, so if necessary be prepared to fund your own testing kit. For many of us our meters are our main tool for managing and controlling our diabetes - in spite of what we may be being told to the contrary.

Regarding sleepiness, I was like that before I was diagnosed, and it can actually be carb heavy meals that knock you out. Testing andacting on your test results - recording and adjusting your meals/eating patterns by reducing those carbs - should hopefully help you resolve this.

I get very sleepy after carbs. Haven't eaten them other than above ground veggies in years. Starch knocks me out.

I would agree with testing. Many of us replace our carbs with healthy fats like avocado, olive oil, mayo, nuts. Many find a lot of their issues resolve and loads more energy.

I too have very thin skin and it rips easily. I put vitamin E oil on it an drew it heals much faster without scarring.
