Help! Was in hosp before christmas with DKA and pneumonia. Was then put on Glic and am now on maximum dose 160 mg with breakfast and 160 mg with evening meal. BGs have been much improved although a little sporadic of late due to stress. Went to the inlaws yesterday for a meal and had a fairly high reading 15.5 2 hrs after tea. Tested when i went to bed and had gone down to 8.5. Was 9 on waking this morning. Had blueberries and total yog for breakfast which i'm normally fine with. Just done my 2hrs after breakfast test and my reading was 28.4  Should i get help? I don't have ketone strips or anything to test for ketones.

if u have no way to test for ketones i would get someones advice its too late if u go down hill rapidly better to be safe than sorry

Have you got someone with you that knows what's going on as well? If not, get someone round first, then phone NHS Direct. Let us know how it all goes when you are feeling better!

Claire, those are high readings and if it were me I'd want to know if there are any ketones present. Yes, if it were me I'd get in touch with out of hours GP or NHS direct.

sounds sensible make sure u wash ur hands well to get accurate results hope things start moving in the right direction soon

Despite the high readings, do you feel well? If you feel unwell together with the high readings then I wouldn't wait to see what the readings do. But if you feel okay then I guess keep an eye on the readings like they say.

Just tested again and it's come down to 14.5 so is going the right way. If i still feel iffy this afternoon, i'll get hubby to take me to the walk in centre anyway. Would rather be safe than sorry. I have a headache but apart from that feel fine.
