Hello!
Last week i went to the doctor and he gave me the voluntary to stay on my current insulin (Insulatard + Actrapid) (Insulatard + Actrapid i've been using since i was 1 year old and recently its horribly bad and i can't keep my bg levels good unless i use cinnamon) or switch to Humalog + Lantus which he said would help me gain weight cause i'm very underweight but i managed to gain some weight lately
so he said take 16 unit of lantus and 4 unit of Humalog
My question is i should keep using current insulin combo or take L+H?
is 4 unit really enough? is there any higher risk of hypo then actrapid? i know humalog is faster but is it stronger then actrapid?
i'm really underweight i would like to gain weight
my weight is only 84.87 LBS and i'm 16 , i had diabetes since i was 1 year old and as you can see through my past topics my control was pretty messy till i managed to bring it to good levels since 1 year ago and my HbA1c now is 7.3%
I just want to gain weight
Also how much 1 unit of humalog decrease BG/cover amount of crabs?
that's my parents questions

Hey, have you considered weight lifting? It's a good way to put on weight, more muscle helps with BS control, and the ladies certainly appreciate a looked after gentleman!

In terms of insulins, I've not used those you've mentioned but have had very good success with Levemir and NovoRapid. Lantus allegedly has a greater affinity to the igf-1 growth hormone, but the jury is still out on that one...

Calories in -v- out. Eat more, take the right amount of insulin and you will gain weight.

Insulatard might have been good. IN THE 80's ( lol, JK). I'd say go with Lantus/Humulog for sure. It will give you more flexibility and probably better control. If your Dr. says 4 units is enough start with that and report back to them how you're doing. Everybody's different but 1 unit of Humulog drops my sugar about 1.7 points I take about 1 unit/12g carbs. But they usually start low and build up as needed.
