Hiya fellas and girls,Im new here but thought I'd start by asking a question.Ive had really sore shoulders for the past 15 yrs.Around every 8 weeks this pain flares up.I went to bed last sat night feeling normal,no pain.Wakened Sunday in agony, could barely get out of bed. This normally lasts around 18-21 days. Then tapers off and no pain for approx 6-12weeks which varies.Ive been diabetic from I was 14 so 22 yrs now. When I went to the doc on tues for anti inflammatory injection and the doc said that there was lots of diabetics with shoulder pain. She didn't know what the reason was but said there's defo a connection.I was wondering does anyone else know of this relation between extreme shoulder pain and diabetes? And if so the possible cause of flare ups so I can try to avoid it?Thanks

Hi Cuba,

Someone posted this a few weeks ago - I found it by typing 'shoulder' in the search bar at the top on the right.

'this is what my consulant told me when he said i had a frozen shoulder.
Muscular and skeletal problems such as yours are virtually universal among people with long-standing, poorly controlled diabetes.
They probably stem from glycosylation of collagen (a protein in tendons).
Collagen fibers normally slide along one another during muscular movement. In glycosylation, they become glued together by glucose. This process can also occur in the skin, which becomes hard and tough (diabetic scleredema).'
