Hi everyone, after much procrastinating I'm here.

My name is Liz, I'm 33, a type 2 diabetic of 6 1/2 years standing. I had a non-diabetic HbA1c until 2 years ago and then it shot up. Now I'm on metformin and exenatide and I'm starting to inch it down. At last check it was 57, down from 65 a few months before. I'm finding the exenatide great, I've lost quite a lot of weight and not had any hypos. I'm a life long sugar addict and secret eater, still really struggling with sugar (open tub of swizzels sweet shop favourites to my left...), and constitutionally unsuited to a high protein diet. My bmi is 36 now, down from 40 a year ago, portion control is easier on exenatide! Anyway, I'm here, hoping to use the forum to deal with my sugar habit and face the fact that I have diabetes... Finally. And of course support others in any way I can!

Hi Liz and welcome. Well done with the weight loss but please don't start putting it back on by having those sweets in reach. Give them to your neighbour.

You are the second person to mention Exenatide in the last few minutes. I'd never heard of it and had to look it up!

Well done on your weight loss and your reduction in HbA1c. Brilliant. You just need to conquer your sugar addiction now - get rid of everything sweet from your cupboards and tuck in to a few berries with cream. My favourite is a coffee with cream.

Keep posting, ask questions, and good luck.

EDIT. Just realised it was you that mentioned the Exenatide earlier!!!!!
 
hello and welcome, i used to have a big sugar habit, now if i eat anything sugary, i think yuk although i can,t get of the one sweetener in my tea

Hello there, and welcome.

I note you have been diabetic over 6 years, but has a non-diabetic HbA1c until 2 years ago. What did you do to reduce your HbA1c between diagnosis (at which point, I am assuming your HbA1c was in the diabetic range?), and two years ago, and what, if anything, are you doing differently now?

It's likely if you could lose some weight, any insulin resistance you suffer from would improve (and maybe even impact on your requirement for Exantide), which usually improved the HbA1c.

Aside from the from your sweeties, what do you eat routinely? Do you go to work, or are you at home during the day?
 
Hi and welcome. The good news is that it's possible as and when you can get your BMI nearer to 'normal' your diabetes should fade away into the background so do focus on the low-carbing and it's best not to buy the nasty stuff in the first place; my wife never buys any biscuits so we can't snack on them it there aren't any!

Morning Eddie yep kicked dragging and screaming back to the forum,Antibiotics have started to kick in but my ears are still blocked so cannot hear anything.Happy New Year to you also hope you are doing o.k.

I never really needed sugar ...but still became type 2 you can't win sometimes because I often would like some now
However we must not , and together find an alternative ...a diet to suit you , great news on weight loss ...
