Siblings and Type1

According to one study I saw the lifetime chance of a sibling getting diabetes was around 6%. This seems a little low to me as most of the people I know who have T1 have a sibling who also has it.

So for ( a somewhat unscientific poll) - do you have siblings and do they have t1 too. And if not how old are they?
 
I have type 1 ( for 44 years ) age is 59
I have a brother and a sister -- neither have Diabetes ( type 1 or type 2)
they are 55 and 53 respectively

I have a younger brother who was diagnosed before me, back in 1987....he was 2....

I was diagnosed later in life in 1999....when I was 15...
 
My friends husband is t1, his brother is also t1 (both diagnosed late teens) and three of his four sons is also t1 (diagnosed in their late teens) His father was also t1

Wow, this doesn't sound good for me or my brothers kids.....OK so far......

No type ones in the family up until us though...
 
Type 1 since 1967, older brother not affected, i have two children 35 & 33 also clear, just me in the family tree.
 
1 brother, 1 sister, neither have diabetes - but then again no one in my family that we know of in living memory has or had diabetes apart from me. (no comments about the milkman please!.......)
 
12 year old daughter with type 1, her sister who is only 10 months younger has none. Both have been asked to go on a trial as to the likelihood of the younger being effected.
 
I'm type 1. Diagnosed as an adult in 2004. I have an elder brother with no diabetes. In fact no known blood relative with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. However, when my mother (in her 70s) has her annual health review, she always answers "yes" to the question "is there a history of diabetes in your family?" I guess, she's technically correct but I don't think inheritance works that way.
 
Inn the only type 1 in my family, my sister is a year and a half younger and doesn't have it. My grandfather has type 2 but his is a classic case of being exceptionally overweight. Weirdly enough, both my uncles who are of no blood relation have type 1 (one diagnosed when he was two and the other who was diagnosed aged 35 same year as my diagnosis at 18 months!) more of a coincidence than anything else.
 
I have a younger brother who is not affected. So far im the only one in my family tree!
 
No type 1 in my family at all, my diagnosis came as quite a shock.

I have grown-up children who thankfully don't have type 1.

Is that the T1 diabetic milkman who liked to do the rounds???????
 
One and only type 1 in my known family. Apparently a far distant uncle had type 2 many years ago, but that's about it.
Thankfully at moment all my offspring are diabetis clear.
 
Yes - I was diagnosed with Type 1 at 4 - (51 years ago) and my sister was diagnosed at 50 - (10 years ago) we're on the same Insulin regimens even though we have different doctors and different regions of the country.
 
I have a younger sister, 47. So far so good.. My niece? About 10 the same status as my sis... Clear!
My dad was T2, (no longer with us.) diagnosed in his late 60s.?
 

I started on insulin when I was 12 in 1977, and my bruv was diagnosed 3 years before me so around 1974 (ish). He's recently received a new pancreas (and kidney) so I'm catching him up
It was supposed to be rare to have T1 siblings; a researcher came to the house to talk to us and take blood samples, about a year after I was diagnosed, although we never heard any more after that.
 
My big sister, brother and I are all t1, my little 1/2 sister isnt (it runs on my Dad's side of the family)

Also have a daughter and 2 cousins who are t1 as well
