I have been incredibly stressed at work causing my bgs to be high teens on work days. I've handed in my notice as I have found a less stressful position. As it is having such a bad impact on my health I requested a sick line from my GP. However the sick line just says "med 3 doctor's assessment" and that I'm not fit to work for 28 days. Does anyone know what this means? I assumed it would say something as to why I need to be off?

Hi and well done on finding a less stressful position. I do not know what med 3 means but why does your note need to say the reason for it being issued? This is sensitive and personal information which your doctor is handling with discretion. If you were not resigning then your employer may well ask for an OH assessment to see if there is anything that be done to enable you to return to work without exacerbating your condition. Does the 28 days cover your notice period in any case?

Yes I suppose that sounds about right. I've never had a sick line before so just assumed it would state a reason. Yes the 28days will cover me until the end of my notice period..

Only sick line I know was a one we had to call to tell work I was going sick and they interegated us to ask when we were returning. Often I didn't know when I'd feel well again so said a week. Then if I was sick longer than a week, I called them (railways) back with how long my gp sick note lasted til.
Maybe changed now as it was nearly 12yrs since working for them.

Unless you're referring to the government sick line (ESA), are you?

I'm not sure it was given to me by my GP

Some GPs do not deal with sick notes now so if this is something your GP practice is doing which off loads there work, then they should still be able to explain it to you...
