SICKLE CELL TRAIT.

Can anyone tell me how diskless TRAIT affects type 2 diabetes, and whitch is the correct blood test for results,I am on 4 gliclazide and 4 slow acting metfomin a day .do I need a Hbac1,or a fructosamin test for correct results .my blood singers stay around 114 to 16 ,and my last hbac1 was 135

The HbA1c test is predicated on blood cells surviving 100-120 days.

In full sickle cell anaemia there is a change in one of the amino acids in haemoglobin causing it to fold differently and change
the shape of the cell.

These cells have a shorter life - this will affect the length of time available for glucose to stick to it

In sickle cell TRAIT there is only one copy of the changed template, and there only a reduced number of sicke cells.

( It is thought that sickle cell trait has provided some evolutionary advantage against malaria - as the parasite does not breed in damaged cells )
