Can I just ask. If my bgs are 8 two hours after eating and I didnt take any fast acting its clear my basal is too high. Which lantus woild I decrease? Taking 12 units 9 am 18 units 9 pm. Tried ringing diabetes nurses no reply as of yet. Thanks.
Give it a go, I've used levemir before and found it to be next to useless, but others have switched to levemir and found it to be a great basal insulin, if levemir doesn't work ask about Tresiba.

Well not really, that depends what your BG was before eating, and what you ate. On a normal diet most people (who would be on that diet) would say 8 mmol/L +2 hours is pretty acceptable.
It might have the advantage that the two injections will overlap with each other. So if you need more basal for one half of the day and less for the other, Levemir might help. But it is a totally personal thing - some people *need* the overlaps to create a "shape" that best matches their basal needs over the 24 hrs.
I would persevere with the Lantus though before switching, as switching insulins can bring big issues all its own.
Could you give a day's BGs and doses? It's hard to comment more without that.
