anyone else have this problem? low carb high fat diet i was following has kept my blood glucose levels good now i'm struggling as fat brings on reflux.

I do have reflux, but not with fat...maybe back it off a bit and add it more slowly, let your body adjust to it
it's strange because most say their reflux has cleared up
you can put a brick under the legs of the bed at the head, so there is a 4" slope, head higher than feet

Yes, really bad acid reflux if I push the fat.
I used to live off gaviscon, or any proton pump inhibitor, omeprazole on prescription, if I need it. (not at the moment though)

thanks for replies! i have tried propping up the bed and it does work. got a few bad chest infections in winter then summer heat creating problems with pollen and breathing. never usually ill but all that left me feeling stressed so maybe that started it. anyway i am cutting back on the fat and i will try a wee bit at a time. cough which i had for nine months has finally gone but have to see a respiratory specialist just to check all ok.

Hi Maisiesgranny :)

How long have you been on your LCHF diet. When you cut down on the fats keep an eye on your bg levels.
If the problem persist,it may be time to find a new diet that suits your needs.Thankfully there is plenty of diets etc; to control diabetes.
Lets hope your respiratory specialist gives you some good advice as there may be a connection with your reflux problem.
Hope it all gets better soon for you.

thank you izzi. i have been on lchf diet for about four years and it was working so well. will see what specialist says about health and look for another diet.

if you cut your fat for any length of time, you may need to increase your carbs, it is best as you say to see your Dr, as to what is going on. it seems strange for a symptom to surface after 4 years, there may be other factors making fats reflux

Had reflux for many years now , fats make it so worse I take lots of medication ...
It is of course worse at night but not always ...
Some excess saliva also needs the acid reduced , depends on the person ...
I
Having gall bladder removed did not help me , it does for some , it has left stomach problems to ...
I don't have much fat ...mainly soya products ...or almond milk etc ...
It can be really awful when these attacks flare up ...
Not much control for me , even with medications ...
Good luck with your doctor and health , hope you find away to manage the symptoms ....good luck with your diet changes to

thank you kat. i had my gall bladder removed 39 years ago with never any bother. sounds like you have a tough time of it with your reflux:(
i suppose for me the thing that made me so fed up was my lovely lfhc diet that made me feel great, suddenly was not so good. as i said before maybe just the results of a stressful year health wise. omeprazole gave me the runs so the doc agreed i should stop it. did not like almond milk but never tried soya. hoping i'll get some answers from specialist. raising my bed helps at night and have not been so bad since i did that. hope you find things that help. probably a relaxing month in the bahamas would do us all good.ha ha! take care!

you might have gastritis, this causes reflux, and problems with breathing, lungs try to lift away from stomach push diaphragm up, you get chest infections, reflux, if you need to slope your bed or sleep almost sitting up, then you need to ask GP to refer you to a gastroenterologist.
Drinking Gaviscon when you have a gall bladder can cause it to produce stones and they can cause no end of problems.

I was in ICU for a week because of Gastritis causing breathing problems, I didn't even know that my breathing was not right until I lay flat and felt I was drowning.

I have suffered from reflux for years. Since eating low carb moderate fat it has got a lot better...but I have found yoghurt makes it worse and my breathing is affected. All other dairy seems to be OK. I was taking omeprazole but have stopped that and so far so good. Hope you get it sorted.

have finally got a diagnosis!!! i have bronchiectsasis. scarring of the lungs which attracts mucous. it is a condition which can't be cured only managed. probably caused by scarring of the lungs as a child and triggered by a few chest infections this year. saw respiratory doc and to go for ct scan to confirm and see extent of damage. trouble is, i have lost a few pounds (unplanned) and she told me in no uncertain terms to loose NO MORE and no faddy diets(!) as i will be prone to bad infections and they want to keep me out of hospital. both a great relief, and also a shock. i have felt ill but kept being told i was fine and turned away from a@E with a flea in my ear as a time waster. oh well it is a bit rare. so i am now adjusting to two diseases. just as well i have good friends and lots of things i enjoy doing. keep smiling folks:)
